Residency Information

Jam-packed adventures in movement! Wow!

Our high-voltage vibe is inspired by funky West African rhythms and characterized by Canadian innovation for a truly world beat feel. Full student participation provides opportunities for great accomplishments and self-expression. Our high-spirited programs leave students breathless.

Even if you have two left feet, Three Left Feet believes every ‘body’ can dance.

Three Left Feet residencies are created for an entire school population. We teach students about physical expression, rhythm, spatial awareness and performance. Three Left Feet draws on western theatrical dance traditions, and also offers expertise in West African dance traditions. Our syllabus is engaging and created especially for the populations we meet in each particular school.  We ensure that there is a dance for every student that suits his/her ability. We also provide professional development for teachers and other school staff, with the aim of enriching residency experience for entire school. By including everyone in our Artist-in-Residence programs, we are able to educate students about dance, and also encourage a sense of community in the school.

Residencies culminate with a final demonstration that provides the students with a unique opportunity to perform, share and practice their craft. The show is open to families and invited guests and takes place during school hours. The performance is a celebration of learning, student success, and is a moving and important community building experience.

School Experience

Three Left Feet strives for excellence and values feedback from teachers, school administrators and our peers in the artistic community. Our approach complements what teachers already do, and our expertise in fine arts allows us to give teachers jumping-off points into new material and experiences for their students. We are a company that strives for excellence, and values the learning opportunities our students provide us with every day.

Having a residency is a rewarding way to bring your school community together with fun, creative and new experiences.

The Artists and Education grant program is available through the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.  Funding from this program helps to offset the cost of bringing artists into Alberta schools. Please let us know if your school is interested in submitting an application for a Three Left Feet residency. We would be very happy to advise you on preparing your application.

Please note: The annual Artists and Education grant deadline is April 1.
